I was born in Binghamton, New York in 1962. I was raised in the area, I met my wife there, and my kids were born there. And I started writing there. in 2006, we left Binghamton because of an opportunity in a different state, but Binghamton never left me.

When my first novel, THIRTY-THREE CECILS came out in 2015, it was set in part in Binghamton, New York. And when the next book came out in 2018, THE INVENTION OF EVERYTHING: Insights on Life, Food, and one good Thermos, of course it had Binghamton stories and people all throughout it.

Over the ten years since we have been gone, the city went from a strong industrial one, to a weak industrial one, and then it bacame something else. Galleries began opening up where manufacturing used to be. Concerts were performed in homes, Industrial Artists and Mosaic Artists were changing the face of the city.

So while on a two day book launch, I wanted to take a film crew to meet with some of the most influential people in this arts scene. The people that are actually doing it. To try and determine what is so special about this place. Why is Binghamton so creative?
